Winterlandschaft mit Holzsteg

The museum’s German title means “winter landscape with a wooden footbridge”. Wouwerman, born in Haarlem in 1619 and dead there in 1668, spent his working life in that city, and winter scenes belonged to the specialisms into which Dutch painters of the century divided their trade. He signed and dated the panel 1660. Catalogued in Berlin as inventory 900F, it was bought in 1908 from the collection of Rudolphe Kann in Paris. It is held in the Gemäldegalerie, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.
