Salvator Rosa was a Neapolitan painter, printmaker, and poet celebrated for his rebellious spirit and his dramatic, atmospheric landscapes. His work, characterized by wild natural settings and an air of romantic melancholy, was enormously influential on the development of the picturesque tradition and the Romantic movement.
