Le Repos des nymphes au retour de la chasse, dit Le Retour de chasse de Diane

Diana, returned from the hunt, rests among her nymphs in a sunlit woodland — a grand rococo overdoor painted for a Parisian interior as one of a set of four dessus-de-porte that were separated in the nineteenth century. François Boucher (1703–1770), first painter to Louis XV and the most celebrated decorator of the rococo, signed and dated the canvas 1745, setting the goddess of the hunt at ease with quiver, hound and the trophies of the chase about her, the whole rendered in his signature silvery greens and rose-blond flesh tones. The painting is held in the Musée Cognacq-Jay, le goût du XVIIIe.
