Woodland Road

A sandy track curves away between tall oaks into the heart of a Dutch woodland, their trunks rising in dappled shadow against a pale summer sky. Meyndert Hobbema, the last of the great Dutch landscape painters of the golden age, built his reputation on just such views — sunlit clearings, quiet roads, and the honest architecture of trees. A small figure at the roadside gives scale to the gentle vastness around him.
