The Little Street

Vermeer’s only surviving street scene shows a narrow row of brick houses in Delft, with a woman sewing in the doorway and children playing on the stoop. The quiet composition — half architecture, half passage — captures an ordinary moment with extraordinary stillness, its planes of sunlit wall and shadowed brick carefully balanced.
