Still Life with Flowers

Jan van Huysum was the most celebrated flower painter of the eighteenth century, and his elaborate bouquets commanded the highest prices of any still lifes in Europe. Still Life with Flowers, dated 1723, shows the layered compositions and luminous technique — with light grounds and delicate glazes — that made van Huysum’s work the final, brilliant culmination of the Dutch flower piece.
