Portrait of Marten Soolmans

A young man stands full-length before a bare wall in the dark, elegant dress of a wealthy Amsterdam merchant, a single glove in hand. Rembrandt painted this life-size portrait in 1634, the pendant to the companion likeness of Marten’s wife Oopjen Coppit, and together they are famed as the only life-size full-length portraits he ever painted for a private couple.
